Introducing The Beacon
The Communications Department,
in collaboration with the Writer’s Guild, is pleased to introduce The
Beacon, a new literary review for Goodwin College.
The Beacon is a publication
that showcases the creative and scholarly writings of faculty, staff, and
students. The goal is to help writers on campus reach a broader audience,
and enhance baccalaureate culture by celebrating scholarship and creativity.
The Beacon accepts
- Poetry
- Short stories
- Creative nonfiction
- Essays
- Research papers
- Summaries of lengthier scholarly articles
- Book / movie reviews
Deadline: October 1, 2010
Submission Guidelines
- The author must be a Goodwin employee, student, or alumnus
- Profanity will be edited out
- Submissions with controversial subject matter are welcome, but the
decision to publish will be made by the Communications Department and the
Writer’s Guild
- Submissions longer than 1,500 words may be edited for length (anything
longer than approximately five double spaced pages)
- Submissions that need significant revision will be sent back to the author
with feedback
- The work must be the author’s own
- Art and photography may be considered for publication on a limited basis
- Submissions may be edited substantially to make them appropriate for
publication
- Anonymous submissions will be considered, but preference is given to
attributed work
- Scholarly work must cite sources in the style appropriate to the
discipline

Distribution
Copies of The Beacon will be distributed on campus and by mail to friends
and supporters of the College. Extra copies will be made available to
contributors.
