As Connecticut’s fastest-growing college we offer degree and certificate programs in Business Studies, Computer Technology, Human Services, Early Childhood Education, Medical Assisting, Respiratory Care, and Nursing that are responsive to the needs of the marketplace and the citizens of Connecticut.

Goodwin College continues to offer programs that adapt quickly to the changing priorities of business and industry. This interdependence between education and enterprise contributes to building a strong foundation for students to pursue meaningful careers and advanced study, to become responsible citizens, and to enhance their quality of life, as well as that of the community.

History
Goodwin College was founded in 1999. Its history dates back to its beginnings in 1962 as Data Institute, a private career school. Goodwin College is accredited by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges through the Commission on Institutions of Higher Education. Goodwin’s main campus is on Burnside Avenue in East Hartford, Connecticut, and includes two historic mansions and an academic building. Courses are also offered on Main Street in East Hartford and in Waterbury and Hamden.

Mark Scheinberg, former owner of Goodwin College, contributed the institution to the community in 2004. Goodwin College is a nonprofit 501(c) 3 institution. Mr. Scheinberg remains as President.

Philosophy
Most Goodwin students are working adults, supporting themselves and their families. Focused core classes, early on, allow students to immediately work in their fields while completing general education degree requirements.

We pursue academic excellence by providing a diverse student population with a highly qualified faculty, excellent student services, and an array of viable programs that meet the needs of our students. Our faculty embraces change, pursues academic achievement, and is passionate about teaching.

Programs
Eighteen accredited degree and certificate programs provide career advancement and transfer to the baccalaureate level. Associate’s degrees are offered in nursing, health sciences, respiratory care, medical assisting, human services, early childhood education, computer systems and business studies. Certificate programs include histotechnician, medical office, medical billing and coding, office administration, entrepreneurship, non-profit management, and youth development. An English as a Second Language program is offered through the Department of Continuing Education. New programs are planned in Homeland Security, Criminal Justice, and Environmental studies.

Growth
With a 40% increase in enrollment in 2004 and 35% in 2005, Goodwin College is the fastest growing institution of its size in the State of Connecticut. Many students who have not succeeded at other schools thrive at Goodwin. Classes are small and intensely focused, and the college staff and community offer hands-on, personalized peer and institutional support.
