Initiatives
That Make Goodwin College Different.

The state of Connecticut has long turned to Goodwin College to personalize courses for people who are blind, hearing impaired, or in need of personalized services. The One-2-One program has successfully adapted our curricula for hundreds of students, allowing them to succeed.

Foster Care Focus

Goodwin College prides itself on providing a high-touch student environment. For this reason we have been very successful working with foster care students who tend to need additional
academic and personal support. The Department of Children and Families has recognized our success.

Second Step

Many people have left public assistance only to take jobs with low pay and limited options. Working with the state's Office of Workforce Competitiveness, Goodwin's Second Steo program works with students to develop career paths and bring home the true rewards of work. Income levels increased by 77%, and participants earned benefits and established viable career paths.

ESL/Entrepreneurship Bridge

Goodwin has long been one of the largest private providers of English as a Second Language in Connecticut. Many new Americans dream of owning their own business. Goodwin's New Americans program shows them how to succeed, to design a business plan, and to understand American business law. Then the College connects with the lenders, and helps them plan for success.

Peer Support Projects

Teachers and parents know that messages are sometimes best received when they come from a peer. Goodwin realizes this, and has created an array of programs to tap the power of students to inspire, teach, and support each other. We encourage these relationships and give them the support they need. Peer2Peer, STARS, and the Student Learning Center are just a few of the ways Goodwin connects students to students for mentoring and teaching.

Community Service Focus

Goodwin College exists to be of service to our community, and we expect our students to fully embrace this mission. Students are given opportunities and credit for community service projects, and a history of public service is a factor in admissions. This mission enriches our immediate and our larger communities, while it puts our personal learning in context.
