What is Shibboleth?
The Shibboleth System is an open source software package for web single sign-on to web sites that is restricted to a certain audience. Goodwin Library uses Shibboleth as the authentication program that gives access for Goodwin students and staff to Goodwin Library's resources from home.
This program is an alternative to the VPN connection method to access Goodwin Library's resources from home. By using Shibboleth, no changes are required to the network settings of your home computer.
Help
If you are unable to access Shibboleth, the following steps should be taken:
1. Contact the library at 860-913-2042. A librarian on shift will confirm if you are able to log into Sonis Web.
2. If you cannot access Sonis Web, call the Goodwin College helpdesk at 860-727-6743.
Accessing Goodwin Research Databases Using Shibboleth
Access the Research Databases page from the Library Web page:
When you click on a database link at home, you will be directed to Shibboleth's authentication page.
You only need to authenticate ONCE during a computer session. When you click on a second database, you will get into the database directly.
Gale Databases
When accessing a Gale research database, you will be sent directly to the Shibboleth Authentication page.
The Campus ID is composed of:
Your Sonis Web user id
The Student Password is composed of:
Your Sonis Web password.
EBSCO Databases
When accessing an EBSCO research database, follow the steps below:
1. A login page will appear. Click on the link "Shibboleth Login".
2. A Shibboleth login page will appear. Select or click on the link "View All Institutions".
3. Scroll down the list until you see the subheading "US Higher Education".
Click on the link "Goodwin College".
4. You will be sent to the Shibboleth Authentication page.
The Campus ID is composed of:
Your Sonis Web user id
The Student Password is composed of:
Your Sonis Web password.
ProQuest Databases
When accessing an ProQuest research database, follow the steps below:
1. A login page will appear. Click on the link "Log in through your library or institution". DO NOT LOGIN ON THIS PAGE.
2. A "Login through your library or institution" page will appear. Click on the down arrow to select the region "United States" from the drop down box. Then, click the Select button.
3. Now the "library or institution" box will appear. Click on the down arrow to select the library "Goodwin College". from the drop down box. Then, click the Login button.
4. You will be sent to the Shibboleth Authentication page.
The Campus ID is composed of:
Your Sonis Web user id
The Student Password is composed of:
Your Sonis Web password.
